Have you been paying attention? Israel has been doing a free for all in Gaza since the beginning… well, since they bombed the first hospital and legacy media and the U.S provided political cover. It’s been a total gloves off scenario. They’ve violated the ceasefire with Lebanon roughly 1000 times. Yes, 1000, it’s what they do. I think maybe have a little faith in some future justice. Not everything can be evidenced and much of the evidence is sensitive information which is not something any military would share publicly. Ceasefires were violated back and forth in this war (as before) so it is plausible that Israel did the violation as much as it is that Hamas combatants shot at Israelis first; we also do not know how what percentage of that 25+ Palestinians were combatants. At the end of the day, the peace terms are clear and it is up to Hamas to follow up on them so there’s that.

It isn’t very convincing evidence for an outsider, but for the army, it’s enough evidence to act on because they trust their soldiers and are familiar with the system. 


Remember also that the army treats its info as confidential by default cause even releasing this type of evidence can give an adversary info about the workings/limitations of its systems. 

Not to mention that they don’t want to set the precedence that they need to release evidence in order to counterattack. What if they release drone footage one time, but the next time only have the evidence described above?

I do think that Israel could do a better job of sharing ceasefire violation evidence, but I also understand why the army doesn’t want to.

The real tragedy is that Israeli media just relays the press releases of the military without questioning it, and articles assume these statements to be true. Ultimately, what most Israelis want to hear is that the overall security situation of Israel is "We are being attacked by multiple enemies and we have a strong army that responds to threats effectively when necessary. Maybe sometimes certain soldiers show too much aggression but that does not represent the IDF/Israel's values, and the big picture is that we're mostly engaged in self-defense."

The important mainstream media figures are worried about losing viewership if they deviate from this, so everybody just caters to this perception.

* **Publishing footage has repeatedly proven futile.** Look at the October 7th footage Hamas filmed of themsleves committing heinous acts that people still deny is credible. Same with the Al-Ahli hospital situation back in 2023....it was blamed on Israel, but Israel published footage of the rocket being launched from the hospital parking lot by PIJ and it was crickets over the evidence and plenty of accusations of the footage being faked.
* **It's difficult to document every single thing in a war zone** at all times + not compromise operational security when they do have the footage.
* **Israel has never been great at PR** in this context. Period. They should step it up realize they are fighting in a PR war and have a better strategy. But lack of strategy doesn't prove they are guilty (see first bullet).

They do document violations when footage is available, barring anything that would hurt OpSec…though it’s not always immediate, and certainly not released in the exact moments that troops are defending themselves, the yellow line, etc. Yesterday the IDF released images of rocket launcher and weapons caches found beyond the yellow line and a complex underground tunnel that was found. 

Fire towards IDF soldiers that was responded to by force, including air strikes etc does not necessarily always have footage. Not every inch of war is on film, and far from it. Most ceasefires in any war have numerous tit for tat violations that often go on for many months, years, or more. This is unfortunately not uncommon and is not unique to Israel-Hamas war, but is found the world over. Ceasefire violations are often a he said she said type of thing. There is no objective truth in media.

The second time the ceasefire was broken by Hamas it was the staged hostage they pretended to find when in real just hid it right before. When IDF released the footage and all media started to share it and it was all over social media Hamas attacked a couple of hours later, and the conversation was shifted in a second . 


Yesterday it was the UN resolution calling them a terrorist organization several times and forcing them to de-militarized with a neutral peace force taking control (or something like that). Then right after, when media was discussing that, Hamas attacked Israel again and Israel retaliated and the conversation was shifted again. 


(first time it happened there was no special news to my knowledge but Hamas first said they lost contact with their forces in the region, then a couple of hours later changed the story to: Israel was lying and we had no soliders there). 


Hamas main tactic this whole war has been to manipulate media and try to trick people to hate jews. They lie and lie and lie but they do a good job with that and you have to put soooo many hours to really debunk their lies, which I have done.

I had full confidence that this is what Israel would do, so i never celebrated the ceasefire. It always felt like a lie.

Why did it? Well, how could it not - considering the many times of Israel admitting on video on TV, on Internet interview and in the Knesset itself that, that the Palestinian people are "the enemy" and that they intended to "wipe out every last one of the enemy", and that they would take all of the Palestinian lands. 

There is also the fact of, very early on after Oct. 7th, real estate land being advertised in some synagogues. I viewed this online. It was appalling - and solidified for me that I won't be a part of any synagogue at all that receives funding from groups with Zionist ties of any expression. 

Painful as it is, I would rather remain completely alone than to sacrifice my integrity or my solidarity with humanity. I can't bear to knowingly and willingly support the harm done to the Palestinians, nor anyone else in Israel-Palestine, (including harming Jews psychologically through Zionism, or how it puts us all at risk).

How the positions of the "yellow lines" as a point of the ceasefire were able to be agreed to by both parties, but the specifications of their physical demarcation weren't, to my knowledge, specifically laid out in the offer or brought up for clarification by anyone involved, seems insane.

Does anyone know if there was ever an agreed upon notification system worked out that would make crossing it a violation contingent on an agreed upon 'sufficient" notice or warning by the IDF or Hamas? 

I just find it so hard to believe neither side had a documented responsibility in terms of securing these areas written into the agreement, especially with it being a multipoint withdrawal. It seems like a gigantic oversight, on everyone's part, that gets us right back to the "he said, she said" back and forth.

The US genuinely wanted the ceasefire, as did the 8 Arab nations involved and most of the rest of the international community. But we all knew neither Israel nor Hamas ever wanted one. In fairness there is a condition on Hamas in Phase 1 besides the returning of hostages, that is the surrender of arms, and Hamas has never indicated is intends to comply with it.

Barack Obama is not a good name to evoke when it comes to peace in the middle east tbh. 

Israel violated this ceasefire 2hrs into it. They violated every ceasefire with their other neighbors in 2024 and 2025 as well. We have a rudimentary enough understanding of history to understand that colonial projects do not just stop because a treaty was signed (I'm assuming you're American, you should have that same understanding). 

For the Palestinians this ceasefire is some of the best news they've had in years. They deserve some reprieve. For us in the West? This is not *the* win. This is just step 1. The architects and contributors of this genocide still need to be held accountable, but our president is already calling for amnesty for the chiefly responsible person, Netanyahu. The Palestinians in the West Bank were actively being attacked by settlers during this ceasefire which only were more emboldened by the genocide and openly supported by the govt. 

The struggle for Palestinian liberation is not over until they are actually liberated. Us in the West have no cause for celebration unless you have family there no longer being bombed

I would even argue as Hamas currently hunts down Palestinian "collaborators" their oppressive hold over Gaza is exponentially strengthened. No one caring about those Palestinians tells any potential resistance to Hamas that resisting is futile. They will be abandoned by the world and killed immediately without issue and if anything it will only help Hamas. They have a better chance of survival hiding from IDF bombs than freeing themselves from Hamas control.

Add the fact that Hamas still sees Oct. 7 and all the civilian deaths as a win and part of the plan, and I don't see how you can even begin to wonder if this will lead to lasting peace.

The problem for me, is not that palestine is of course the clear loser, but that Israel wont be held accountable for clear, multiple, well documented cases of massive transgressions of international law and human rights. Humaniarian aid for civilians has somehow slippery sloped into becoming a bargaining chip?
Unprecedented killings of civilians, journalists (!!), using starvation as a weapon, intentionally targeting hospitals etc etc.
In this Wave of relief we seem to be a bit lax about the sheer horror we have been witnessing for the last two years.
The IDF basically got to barbarically rampage for two years in the worst way possible, now they get to say "we won" and everyone is supposed to just be fine with it.
You wouldn't believe how this discussion is conducted here in Germany. Baffling how the crimes against humanity are being down played.
Apart from the injustice of it all, is this the standard we are holding our supposed allies to? Then I don't want to see what to expect from our enemies.
If Israel and Netanyahu are not held accountable, international law will be even more irreparably damaged than it already is. I'm happy that the killing stopped, but If we pretend like nothing happened, that is unacceptable.

People aren't negative on a peace deal and the hostage being free, they are negative on Trump declaring 3000 years of conflict over and that he solved the war.

The fighting haven't stopped. The civilians have just swapped to one terror from another. Hamas has already resurged, purging the already traumatised population with summary executions. Strutting about with weapons flashing.

Until hamas and other terror organisations are removed the plight of the palistinian people in gaza is far from over.

Remember that hamas has already firmly stated that they will not disarm. And until they do then this will not end and Israel will never agree to a two state  solution with hamas or any other jihadi group in power.

Once Hamas calls trumps bluff then Israel will just go at it again.

Nothing will last until 2 things happen:

1) The West accepts the reality that most Palestinians (and most neighboring Arabs) view Israel as an occupying force simply by *existing*. When they say Israel is occupying and must be resisted - they do not mean West Bank / Gaza. This is evidenced consistently in polls, statements, and actions over the past 90 years. 

2) Global pressure (led by the West) alters the education of Palestinian youth to not learn to hate Israel and yearn to 'take back' all of Palestine or even only Jerusalem. This will take decades even when done properly.

Only then will there be a chance at long term stability.

P.S. - yes we all know some Israelis want to take over more of the West Bank, but that percentage is like 10-15% (whereas about 70-80% of Palestinians want to take back all the land). Most Israelis just want to be left alone and would gladly accept peace vs. territorial expansion.

It's just very hard to rustle up much joy over the end of a massive cataclysmic catastrophe that represents a failure of everyone with power, even if you think it's a decisive turning point. It doesn't mean it's not a big deal. I don't know that I can change your view - you feel the way you feel and but even if I were to agree with you on every point of fact I may feel much less happy because the whole thing is just too shameful.

I am worried for three reasons.

1. Isreal has violated dozens of ceasefires over the years. Why would they stick to this one?

2. If they do violate it, it is entirely unbelievable to me that the international community will significantly sanction them, leading me to wonder what their incentive not to do so is.

3. A genocide has taken place and it seems to me clear that the perpetrators are going to get off scot free. Until I see every perpetrator and every IDF commander in Nuremberg-style trials with Nuremburg-style sentences, I will doubt very much the international community and Isreal's commitment to peace. At the moment it's as if WWII ended and Hitler is still in power, offering to help out the Jews a bit.

You must be too young to know that these ceasefire have been happening intermittently for forty years. 

Israel usually orchestrates some narrative about Hamas violating the ceasefire and resumes obliteration. 

All you need to do now is look at much of Gaza Israel has already cleared out to know they’re almost done and can turn it into a Special Economic Zone so the corporations most closely affiliated with the US and Israeli administrations can funnel taxpayer money into their coffers.

We've seen this show before.  These agreements are made often and don't last.  In fact, a few years ago three leaders shared a Nobel Peach Price for such a temporary agreement.

They are celebrating their war crimes buying land they are still stealing cheering for more, because that is what facist supremacist states tend to do. They can't contain their hatred for Arabs in the region and will fight to keep subjugating some while plunging the rest into chaos. Israel doesn't want peace or stability in the region. The answer to peace would be to leave to the original boarders, and to free Palestinians from subjugation, not further squeeze them out into even tighter concentration camps which will never deliver peace.

Well, I agree with you. In the spirit of the sub though:

Hamas representatives are currently say they don’t want to disarm, don’t want Hamas soldiers to leave the government body (they want them to be integrated as soldier or police), and they don’t want an international theocracy in place. 

There is a lot of phase two that is yet to be agreed on from the Hamas side. They are killing IDF collaborators this week. They are also dressing in police uniforms this week which they haven’t during the course of the war (usually in civilian clothing). Probably as a statement of intention to be involved. 

On the other side Trump is already building the theocracy and has had offers from wealthy Arab nations to have a seat at the table. There is a part of the deal going ahead without Hamas recognition. But they no longer have bargaining chips since they have released the 20 live hostages. They are currently withholding the bodies of some of the dead hostages in violation of their agreement. 

There is a ceasefire. But there is also details that are not hammered out. 

Trump made it seem that Hamas accepted the entire 20 point peace plan as a bluff. But the reality is Hamas is in checkmate but still not going down willingly. They do have amnesty if they give up. I believe they still have some 7,000 soldiers. 

Largely speaking there is going to be peace as Trump and other countries pretty much ignore Hamas and act as if the entire deal is on. Hamas is still convinced they can remain and will likely try to sway opinion that way and stoke the fires of protest around the world as long as they can. Some skirmishes may result. 

But largely it is a done deal with Israel agreeing not to annex any Palestinian territory which was the main concern. Those who were fearful of ethnic cleansing are cautiously optimistic. 

Israelis believe that Palestinians lost their chance at a state because of the October 7th attack, which was largely done in areas of people who recognized the Palestinian cause the most. They believe that war is just kicked down the road 5, 10, 20 years. 

Hamas currently does not want to decommission weapons but hand over to Palestinian state with their fighters in Palestinian army or police. But they agree to a proposition of five to ten years of ceasefire. 

Prior to the war the intent of the Palestinian side was overwhelmingly to retake all of Israel. They have seen overwhelming support from the world for this. About 50% of their population is under 18. It is very possible that the conflict continues. And Israelis become less inclined to tolerate further insurrections. 

There is the opportunity for a lasting ceasefire of 5-10 years. But the likelihood as well would just continue. Israel has also been known to preemptively strike in conflicts in a region that pools its resources aligned against them. And they also do want to completely finish Hamas, one of their war aims which they think hasn’t completely finished. 

Another part of the peace plan is destroying the terror tunnel infrastructure underneath the city. Which can meet its own resistance of non compliance like has happened before. 

Largely there is the prospect of peace. But also the sense that in a few years time the conflict will return as usual. People on Reddit are largely pro Palestine. And do not recognize that it is the Palestinian people largely instigating. Therefore the sentiment is that Israel will break the peace. Yes they have unfinished business with Hamas. But they also value relations with the US. And other trade partners in the region. So I think if Hamas doesn’t surrender they can strike. But if they do they likely won’t.

Since the ceasefire Israel killed 15 more Palestinians in Gaza and Israel still controls Gaza’s borders, and have used their power over Gaza to allow only half the needed aid, and Israel is still facilitating land theft and an apartheid system in the West Bank. Palestinians know this won’t hold bc Israel never respects ceasefires. Israel is literally bombing Lebanon right now. Why are you quoting Obama? Listen to actual Palestinians who have dealt with the psychotic occupation for decades

Keep in mind, Arabs have been massacreing local Jews in Israel for centuries. October 7 was not the first time. It has been happening since well before Israel was founded in 1948.

And now there is news that Hamas has breached the deal by refusing to return all of the bodies to Israel.

As for how long it will last, not as long as one would expect. The people that live there hate people because of their race. They want nothing less than to kill all of them. They will sneak into some child's room to kidnap and torture again soon.

Yeah it's good that the fighting stopped. For now.  

But this "deal" massively favored Israel. As always. 

It's just putting a cork in the bottle. But it's too easy to shake the bottle. 

Until everyone agrees to a 2 state solution it will never end and any "peace" deal will be temporary.
